About Us

Who we are,

With Friends is a community-based, non-profit organization that was established in 1990 to meet the needs of homeless, in crisis, and at-risk youth.

Mission: To make a positive difference in the lives of young people ages 10-21 that are homeless, in crisis, or at-risk.

What we do,

We provide residential shelter care, food, counseling, education, skill building, case management, outreach, follow-up and referral services that focus on positive youth development.

Services provided to youth and families in Gaston, Cleveland, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Stanly, Iredell, and Union Counties.

Emergency Shelter: 24 hour emergency shelter for 9 youth male and female ages 10-17 FREE for up to 21 days.

Transitional Living Program: Supportive services to 8 young men ages 16-21 for up to 24 months.

National Safe Place: Access to immediate help and safety for all young people in crisis.

and How we do it…

“Until our streets are safe…Until families can understand each other…Until drugs and violence disappear…Until no young person needs to run away or feel afraid…There must be Safe Place.”
 Safe_Place logo
A network of Safe Place locations — schools, fire stations, libraries, grocery and convenience stores, public transit, YMCAs and other appropriate public buildings – that display the yellow and black diamond-shaped Safe Place sign. These locations extend our doors throughout the community. Youth can easily access immediate help wherever they are.

A team of trained staff is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to help youth and families who seek services.

Focusing on young people’s strengths rather than their weakness is the underlying principle of the Positive Youth Development approach.
